How to Start Writing IGNOU Assignments

Once you download the assignment paper, you can begin writing. But make sure you follow the basic rules that IGNOU has given for every student.

  1. Read Instructions First: Every assignment has its own instructions on the first page. Read them carefully because IGNOU checks whether you followed them or not.
  2. Use A4 Size Sheets: You can use plain or ruled A4 sheets. Both are accepted by IGNOU.
  3. Keep Proper Margins: Make a margin on every page. This gives your assignment a neat look and helps the evaluator correct it easily.
  4. Use the Right Pens
    1. Black pen for questions
    2. Blue pen for answers
    3. Do not use red pen under any condition
  5. Write Neatly: Clear handwriting helps your examiner read your answers easily. Messy writing can reduce your marks.
  6. Add Diagrams When Needed: If your subject requires diagrams or charts, draw them neatly. Diagrams make your answer more understandable and can help you score better.
  7. Binding and File: Keep your assignment pages safe in a stick file or a hard file. Make sure the file is properly tied or punched so pages don’t fall out.
  8. Handwritten Only: IGNOU does not accept typed assignments. Everything except coding must be handwritten.
  9. Coding/Programming: Coding or programming outputs can be printed and attached on separate sheets. This is allowed for technical subjects.
  10. Follow Word Limits: For a 20-mark question, write at least 500 words. Short answers may reduce marks.

Front Page Format for Each Assignment

Each subject must have its own front page. This page has important details like:

  • Student Name
  • Enrollment Number
  • Program Code
  • Course Code
  • Study Centre Code
  • Address
  • Session
  • Mobile Number
  • Email ID

Every course needs a separate file and a separate front page. Also attach the assignment question paper with your answer sheets.
